The Wood Framed Individual Panel Sliding System

Part 1 — General

1.01 Summary

  1. Section Includes: Individual panel wood and glass door sliding system, including aluminum head jamb, tracks, stacking bays and threshold, wood frame side jambs, sliding panels and swing panels, sliding/swinging and locking hardware, weather stripping, glass and glazing; designed to provide an opening glass wall or storefront, with sizes and configurations as shown on drawings and specified herein, with the HSW65 NanaWall®, the Wood Framed Individual Panel Sliding System as supplied by Nana Wall Systems, Inc.

1.03 Submittals

  1. Detail Drawings: Indicate dimensioning, configuration, swing panels, stacking bay layout, typical head jamb, side jambs and sill details, type of glazing material and handle height.
  2. Product Data: Manufacturer's literature including independently tested data listing performance criteria and Owner's Manual with installation instructions.
  3. Contract Closeout Submittal: Submit Owner's Manual from manufacturer. Identify with project name, location and completion date, and type and size of unit installed.

1.04 Quality Assurance

  1. Manufacturer: Provide complete, precision built, engineered, pre-fitted unit by a single source manufacturer with at least 15 years experience in providing folding/sliding door systems for large openings in the North American market.
  2. Thermal Performance: Unit to comply with the U value, simulated in accordance with NFRC 100, shown in manufacturer's latest published data for the glazing specified.
  3. Solar Heat Gain Coefficient: Unit to comply with the solar heat gain coefficient, simulated in accordance with NFRC 200, shown in manufacturer's latest published data for the glazing specified.
  4. Installer Qualifications: Installer experienced in the installation of manufacturer's products or other similar products for large openings. Installer to provide reference list of at least 3 projects of similar scale and complexity successfully completed in the last 3 years. Provide project names, locations, completion dates, names and telephone numbers of General Contractor and Owner's contact person.

1.04 Warranty

  1. Provide manufacturer's standard warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
  2. Warranty Period: Ten years for roller and for seal failure of insulated glass supplied. For all other components, one year (two years if unit is installed by manufacturer's certified trained installer) from date of delivery by manufacturer.

1.05 Site Conditions, Delivery, Storage and Handling

  1. In addition to general delivery, storage and handling requirements specified in Section 01600, comply with the following:
  2. Deliver materials to job site in sealed, unopened cartons or crates. Protect units from damage. Store material under cover, protected from weather and construction activities.
  3. Do not subject wood components to extreme nor rapid changes in heat or humidity. Condition wood components to average prevailing relative humidity before installing.
  4. Do not use forced heat to dry out building.
  5. Store flat in dry, well ventilated area out of direct sunlight.

Part 2 — Products

2.01 Supplier

2.02 Materials

  1. Head Jamb, Tracks, Stacking Bays, and Sill: From manufacturer's standard profiles, provide head jamb, tracks, stacking bays, and sill with dimensions shown on drawings. Provide clear [OR dark bronze] anodized standard flush sill [OR Low Profile Saddle Sill.
    1. Aluminum: Extrusions with nominal thickness of .098" (2.5mm). Alloy specified as AlMgSi 0.5 with strength rated as 6063-T5 or F-22 (European standard).
    2. Aluminum head jamb with matching wood cover on both sides.
    3. Finish: Anodized conforming to AAMA 611.98.
  2. Panels and Side Jambs: From manufacturer's standard profiles, provide panels and side jambs with dimensions shown on drawings or as needed for panel stability. Provide standard bottom rail width [OR as specified]. Provide unit with standard one lite [OR with horizontal mullion(s) at specified height(s) from the bottom of the panel][OR simulated divided lites in pattern as shown on drawings].
    1. Wood: Solid, triple laminated, kiln dried European pine [OR meranti] [OR Douglas Fir][OR other wood as selected] with matching solid wood glazing stops. Sand sealed clear for stain [OR primed white for paint] [OR for interior applications only, additional two coats of factory applied stain or paint chosen from finishes available from manufacturer].
  3. Glass: Provide manufacturer's standard glass and glazing, 15/16" insulating clear safety [OR ¼" laminated] [OR ¼" tempered] [OR 15/16" insulating Low-E safety] [OR other glass available from manufacturer] [OR glass to be acquired and glazed separately in accordance with manufacturer's instructions only. Exact glass dimensions to be provided by manufacturer. ASTM C 1048 Kind FT, select glazing quality float glass; fully tempered safety glass complying with applicable codes.
    1. Provide EPDM gaskets and extruded aluminum snap-in glazing bead for dry glazing per manufacturer's instructions. Stops to provide for total glass thickness of 15/16" (24 mm) [OR ¼" (6 mm)]]. All glass to comply with safety glazing requirements of ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16CFR 1201.
  4. Locking Hardware and Handles: Provide manufacturer's standard flat handle on inside only and concealed two point locking hardware operated by 180º turn of handle as needed on system.
  5. [OR on the main entry panel for models with a swing panel, provide manufacturer's standard solid brass lever handles in an oil rubbed bronze [OR satin nickel] finish on the inside and outside, a Schlage compatible lock set with lockable latch, dead bolt and rods at the top and bottom. Turn of key or thumb turn operates lock and depression of handles withdraws latch.]

    [OR for panel to be opened first, either a swing panel or sliding panel, provide manufacturer's standard L-shaped handles on the inside and outside with two or three point locking hardware operated by 180º turn of handle and a lockset that locks with turn of key or thumbturn.]

    [OR for models with a swing panel(s), on swing panel(s), provide HEWI 550.33 ADA pull handles with separate lock set(s) and dead bolt(s). Recommend this option with a door closer.]

    [OR on main entry panel for models with an outward opening swing panel, no hardware or locking from manufacturer, but with field installed panic device by others.]

    1. Powder coated flat handle finish: dark brown, RAL 8077 [OR white, RAL 9016] [OR dark gray, RAL 7021][OR silver gray, RAL 9006].
    2. Aluminum locking rods capped by Polyamide at top and bottom tracks.
    3. Provide handle height centered at 41 3/8" [OR as specified] from bottom of panel.
  6. Sliding & Swinging Hardware: Provide manufacturer's standard hardware.
    1. For each sliding panel, provide 2 two wheeled, toughened Polyamide covered stainless steel uni-directional sliding door carriers. Carrying capacity of each carrier to be 220 lbs.
    2. For each swing panel, provide manufacturer's standard clear, E6 EV1 anodized aluminum hinges.
    3. Adjustment: Provide system capable of specified amount of adjustments without removing panels from tracks.
  7. Other Components:
    1. Weather stripping: Provide manufacturer's standard double layer APTK at both the inner and outer edge of door panels or on frame for vertical sealing between panels and between panels and frame. Provide brush seals with flexible plastic web for all horizontal sealing.
    2. Provide machine screws for connecting frame components.

2.03 Fabrication

  1. Seal wood frame and panel wood members with a clear sand sealer or white primer. [OR for interior applications only, additional two coats of factory applied stain or paint].
  2. Use frame, tracks, threshold, stacking bays, panel profiles, hinges, sliding/swinging hardware, locking hardware and handles, glass and glazing and weather stripping as specified herein to make an individual panel sliding opening glass wall. Factory pre-assemble as is standard for manufacturer and ship with all components and installation instructions.
  3. Sizes and Configurations: See drawings for selected custom dimensions within the maximum frame sizes possible as indicated in manufacturer's literature. See drawings for selected number of panels, location of swing panels, and location of tracks and stacking bays.

2.04 Accessories

(Edit for project requirements.)

  1. Provide other side lites, transoms, corner posts, or single or double doors as per drawings provided.

Part 3 — Execution

3.01 Erection

  1. Because of the large dimensions involved and the weight and movement of the panels, verify the structural integrity of the header such that the maximum deflection with the live load is limited to be the lesser of l/720 of the span and 1/4". Similar structural support is needed for the stacking bay(s) and any upper track leading to it.
  2. Examine surfaces of openings and verify dimensions; verify rough openings are level, plumb, and square, with no unevenness, bowing, or bumps on floor.
  3. Installation of units constitutes acceptance of existing conditions.

3.02 Installation

  1. Install frame by qualified installer in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and installation instructions. For exterior applications, properly flash and waterproof around the perimeter of the opening.
  2. Installer to provide appropriate anchorage devices and to securely and rigidly fit frame in place, absolutely level, straight, plumb and square. Install frame in proper elevation, plane and location, and in proper alignment with other work.
  3. If necessary, provide drain connections from lower track.
  4. Install panels, handles and lock set in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and installation instructions.
  5. If necessary, adjust hardware for proper operation.
  6. Finishing: Field finish under Section 09900 -Painting; seal and finish promptly after installation and prior to exposure to weather in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
  7. Accessories: Provide the NanaScreenTM, a series of vertical, collapsible, pleated screen panels. Provide top track, side jambs, and vertical struts in white anodized [OR clear anodized] [OR dark bronze anodized] [OR custom powder coated] aluminum. Provide pleated, polypropylene screen material with patented, floor tracking chain with ¼" (5 mm) floor track. See drawings for selected number of panels and configuration.
